Fan confidence in the direction of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football program cratered following the team’s 45-14 loss Saturday to the Michigan Wolverines.
Just 44.7 percent of self-identified Notre Dame fans told SBNation’s FanPulse Sunday that they were confident in the team’s direction, down 50.3 percent from the prior week and a new all-time low.

Irish fans correspondingly dropped their favorite team from No. 10 to No. 16 in this week’s poll. (You can sign up here to add your opinion starting Saturday evening.*)

In the national poll — which encompasses our fans, supporters of 49 other Power 5 teams and those who root for Group of 5 squads — the Irish dropped from No. 10 to No. 15. Michigan improved from No. 25 to No. 18. There was also a new No. 1, as the LSU Tigers claimed the honors.

Michigan’s dismemberment of Notre Dame was poll respondents’ second most surprising result of the weekend, with the Kansas State Wildcats’ victory over the previously undefeated Oklahoma Sooners coming in first.

The confidence poll still hasn’t done anything to disprove bghvgjdh’s theory that just four Stanford Cardinal fans are participating each week. (We’re told there’s at least 50, but...¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
