Bagpipe Monday: How’s this going to end for Notre Dame?

A guessing game.

NCAA Football: Southern California at Notre Dame Quinn Harris-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome to a very belated Bagpipe Monday on One Foot Down. Friends, your Emperor and Supreme Warlord hit a massive wall on Sunday and has finally emerged from the throne room on Monday afternoon — so forgive the lateness of this post (as well as the hastily manner in which I’m about to go about writing this thing).

Bagpipe Monday Notre Dame @phillykelly

After six games, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are just about exactly where many had them in the preseason. The Irish are 5-1 after sending the USC Trojans back to L.A. with Bruins sweatshirts on, and ranked inside the top 10.

So how does this whole thing end up?

The chances of Notre Dame making the college football playoff are pretty slim right now given the schedule and the teams ahead of them. Sure... losses can and will happen, and this is still college football after all — but reality should be served in healthy doses here. We’re (almost) all adults. In my opinion, it’s far more likely that even if the Irish lose one more game, Notre Dame ends up in either the Cotton Bowl or the Orange Bowl (probably the latter).

So where are you at right now? Do you firmly believe the Irish can and will make the playoffs? Do you think one of the NY6 bowls is the likely destination? Do you think the Irish still drop two games this season forcing a blind date with the Big 12 in the Camping World Bowl?

There’s a TON of football left, and that means there is still a TON of crazy shit that can still go down all across the country — so no one is going to hold your feet to the fire should your opinion today end up being disastrously wrong. It’s a BYE week... so we have some time to hash this all out.

Your pipes!
