The Notre Dame Fighting Irish held off the USC Trojans this week in a 30-27 win. It wasn’t the prettiest game at times, but the Irish fared better than several other teams in the national top ten this week. For that, the Irish are up a spot in the AP Top 25 and two spots in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
Here are both polls headed into week 8:

Georgia’s loss to South Carolina nearly landed them outside of the top ten. Meanwhile, LSU’s win against Florida shot them into the top four in both polls, even to the #2 spot in the AP poll. Wisconsin and Penn State also rose in the rankings following important wins and Georgia almost fell out of the top ten completely after a double OT loss to South Carolina.
Notre Dame next head to Ann Arbor on October 26th to face the Michigan Wolverines, who are currently #16 in the coaches poll after beating Illinois this past weekend. None of Notre Dame’s other remaining opponents are currently ranked in either poll.
