Alexander Ehrensberger, a three-star defensive end from Germany, committed Thursday evening to the Irish.
My decision is made!

100% committed! ☘️ #GoIrish @CoachBrianKelly @CoachMikeElston @aarynkearney @PPIRecruits @BCollier56 pic.twitter.com/73DkbpVL7T
“First, I want to thank everyone who has supported me over the past years and made me to who I am today,” Ehrensberger wrote on Twitter. “Especially I want to thank my family, my coaches, Brandon Collier/PPI and all my friends who believed in me! Also, I want to thank all the people who doubted me — your doubt let me grow and made me stronger!!
“I am beyond thankful for this opportunity and extremely excited for what the future holds! With this being said, I am blessed to announced that I will continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Notre Dame! 100% committed! Go Irish! Phil(lippians) 4:13.”
Ehrensberger visited Notre Dame between the Navy and Stanford weekends, and the Irish extended a scholarship offer to the 6-foot-7, 238 prospect a week later. Coach Mike Elston returned the favor this week, visiting Detuschland to see Ehrensberger and other prospects.
Ehrensberger is the fourth commit of the Irish’s 2020 class, behind quarterback Drew Pyne and tight end Kevin Bauman and Michael Mayer. 247 Sports considers Ehrensberger the top prospect in Germany, but the 51st best defensive end and 975th best player overall.

Clearly, the Irish see greater potential than the recruiting services do at this point.
Brandon Collier, a former UMass player now making a living helping European kids earn offers from Football Bowl Subdivision schools, predicted on Twitter than Ehrensberger “will dominate college football.”

1 great thing I can say about @CoachMikeElston and @NDFootball when I brought my kid @AlexanderEhren2 to visit Coach never asked the question “who offered” it didn’t matter because he did his own Eval. That’s the biggest respect there and now 7 other Power 5 schools offered after
