Notre Dame Football Recruiting: Everything you need to know about the 2019 Polynesian Bowl

It’s more than just another game in Hawaii.

The final national signing day for the 2019 recruiting cycle is just a few weeks away and we still have one of the premier high school all-star games to play... the Polynesian Bowl. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are well represented in this game with 3 players, and could add one more from this roster on signing day.

WHERE, WHEN, AND HOW TO WATCH

WHERE: Aloha Stadium, O’Ahu Hawaii
WHEN: Saturday January 19 @ 7:00 PM HT (Midnight EST)
HOW TO WATCH: CBS Sports Network

NOTRE DAME COMMITS IN THE GAME

Team Makai

The Irish are going to be represented by a handful of their most interesting commitments in the Polynesian Bowl.

Marist Liufau was rumored to be (possibly) looking around despite a signed NLI in Notre Dame’s possession. There is talk of a possible “gray-shirt” for the Hawaiian native, and the rumor suggested that he might be interested in the USC Trojans. 247’s Tom Loy put that rumor to rest with an interview with the talented athlete.

According to the 247 Composite, Isaiah Rutherford is the 6th best recruit in this class for the Irish. With cornerback possibly being a question mark for the Notre Dame defense this season and maybe even the season after, Rutherford will have an opportunity to contribute once he gets to South Bend in June.

One of the biggest sleepers in this class is Brendon Clark. Obviously, the Irish look to be in good hands at quarterback for the next few years, and a 3 star prospect doesn’t usually get people very excited. This kind of game is perfect for Clark to showcase what he can do against some of the best talent in the country, and begin to make a name for himself.

NOTRE DAME TARGETS

Team Makai

  • 4-Star ATH Asa Turner

Turner is reported to be still torn down the middle between the Irish and the Washington Huskies. He will play safety in this game, which is what Washington is recruiting him as, but the Irish like Turner at linebacker. Turner is scheduled to announce his commitment on National Signing Day.

OTHER PLAYERS OF INTEREST

Team Makai

  • 4-Star RB Jirehl Brock

Team Makua

  • 4-Star RB Steele Chambers
  • 4-Star LB Tristan Sinclair
  • 4-Star OL Enokk Vimahi

Because of the chatter about running back recruiting during this cycle, it will be really interesting to see Brock and Chambers in action. The Irish coveted Chambers greatly, but passed on Brock.

Sinclair is a Stanford legacy, but Notre Dame was right in the mix for a while. Vimahi was a big target for the Irish as recent as October, but scholarship numbers may have been why the Irish backed off.
