What was your favorite Notre Dame football game in 2018?

There were 12 wins, but they weren’t all equal.

As we said last week, it’s time to start taking a closer look back at last season. Over the next couple of weeks, we will go over many different aspects of the 2018 football season for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Maybe it’s a list, maybe it’s a thought, or maybe it’s just some stats to ponder.

The worst thing we can do as college football fans is to make every single moment of the season about the college football playoff. Sometimes we can’t help it and get caught up in the hype, but at least we can always look back after the season to get a greater appreciation (at least for this season) for what we just witnessed.

We start with an easy one...

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL GAME OF 2018?

A 12-1 season has a lot of great moments attached to it, but not all wins are equal. What was your favorite game? This, of course, is very subjective. Someone’s favorite game could include a multitude of different factors:

  • A special trip to South Bend with family and/or friends.
  • High rankings.
  • A win against the school you hate.
  • A win over the school of that annoying asshole in your office.
  • Your favorite player’s best game.

Whatever.

Here are a few of the top candidates:

24-17 win over the Michigan Wolverines.

This is probably the most obvious choice for many out there as it remained as Notre Dame’s biggest win of the season, it was the season-opener, and, obviously... it was Michigan.

38-17 win over the Stanford Cardinal

Notre Dame was able to conquer one of its worst demons in David Shaw and the Cardinal. The Irish put their throat on Stanford’s neck, grabbed some weights, and pressed down HARD. It was the triumphant return of Dexter Williams, and made fans believe that a 12-0 season was possible.

45-23 win over the Virginia Tech Hokies

So much was made of this game — but not really. So much was made of the 5 minutes before the game was scheduled to kickoff as if an intro was going to bury Notre Dame. And then, after a little tease, Notre Dame was the one that dug the hole for a dead turkey.

24-17 win over the USC Trojans

It wasn’t the prettiest of games, but after a month of hardcore travel and the pressure of the playoffs, the Irish was able to finish the regular season at 12-0 with a playoff berth in hand — while celebrating on their biggest rival’s home field.
