Peeke, who was named to the Academic All-Big Ten team last year, scored 14 points while playing in 39 games for the Irish. He also played for Team USA at the IIHF World Junior Championship. He was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Peeke is the first junior to serve as captain since Cal Petersen in 2016-17.
The Irish also named Jack Jenkins, Dylan Malmquist, Bobby Nardella, and Cal Burke as alternate captains for the upcoming season.

Jenkins, a senior forward, scored 13 points last season while playing in all 40 games for the Irish. He scored the game winning goal in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals with 31 seconds left.
Malmquist earned Academic All-Big Ten honors for the 2017-18 season. The senior forward also scored the game winning goal in the NCAA East Regional final with 27 seconds left to send Notre Dame to their second consecutive Frozen Four.
Nardella, a senior defenseman, also skated in all 40 games and tallied 24 points during the season. Nardella was named the team’s Rookie of the Year during the 2015-16 season.
Cal Burke ranked second on the team last season with 14 goals. Burke was named the Big Ten Third Star of the Week in December and he also earned Academic All-Big Ten honors for the season.
All five players will wear captaincy letters for the first time this season as the Irish look to repeat the success they had during their first season in the Big Ten and return to their third straight Frozen Four.
