The Notre Dame Fighting Irish hockey team will open the season ranked #2 overall in the USCHO preseason poll. The Irish sit behind the #1 ranked Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs, who beat the Irish in the 2018 National Championship Game. Fellow Big Ten teams the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Michigan Wolverines sit at #3 and #4 respectively and the Providence Friars round out the Top 5.
The Fighting Irish garnered two first place votes, same as Ohio State and Michigan, while Minnesota-Duluth received the other 44. Notre Dame opens the season October 12 at the Ice Breaker Tournament in Erie, PA. They’ll be looking to continue their Big Ten success and take the next step on the national stage following back-to-back seasons losing in the Frozen Four.
