It is being reported by Irish Illustrated’s Tim Prister the the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will start Ian Book at quarterback when they travel to Winston-Salem to take on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
After the last 24 hours, this is not a surprise by any means.
Notre Dame has struggled to put points on the board, and in particular, in the second half of football games. This move, however coy Brian Kelly may seem when asked, smells a bit desperate. The quarterback position is certainly where most offenses derived their potency, but with the 2018 Notre Dame team — there have been plenty of other issues on offense not named Brandon Wimbush.
Maybe this will be the extra juice Notre Dame needs to finally “handle” an opponent with inferior talent. Maybe this team, and this season, just needs Ian Book to steady a rocking ship.
I suppose this is better than Brian Kelly pulling a quarterback in the first quarter, but you have to wonder what Brandon’s mindset is going to be on Saturday. I have no doubt that Wimbush will play, but I can also see that time diminish greatly if Ian get’s the “hot hand.”
Is the entire season about to change for the undefeated and #8 team country? Yes, it probably will, but we won’t know until tomorrow afternoon what path that change will be taking the Irish down for the rest of the year.
Don’t worry though... we have all the puns covered (and organized with the Dewey Decimal System).
If everyone was wondering, the @OneFootDown staff is hard at work on investigating any and all Ian Book rumors pic.twitter.com/HUvbwBTgrj
