While eight former Notre Dame Fighting Irish were cut Saturday from NFL teams’ 53-man rosters, the dream lives on for four of them subsequently named to practice squads.

Josh Adams, cut at the Saturday deadline by the Philadelphia Eagles, cleared waivers and is on Super Bowl Champions’ practice squad. The Warrington, Pa. product, who played 2015-2017 for the Irish, received the highest signing bonus — $25,000 — of any undrafted rookie this season.

Cole Luke, who played cornerback for the Irish from 2013-2016, was played on injured reserve and missed the entire year with an ankle injury. He was waived Saturday by the Carolina Panthers, cleared waivers, and signed along with nine other players to the practice squad.

Greer Martini, a linebacker for the Irish’s 2014-2017 squad, made the Packers preseason squad after a rookie camp, was cut Saturday, and signed to the practice squad Sunday.

KeiVarae Russell, a cornerback for the 2012, 2013 and 2015 Irish, was named to the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice squad after being cut by that team Saturday.

The following players were cut Saturday, with no future moves announced:

  • George Atkinson III, a tailback for the 2011-2013 Irish, was released by the New York Jets.
  • Scott Daly, on the Irish’s 2012-2016 teams, was released by the Dallas Cowboys. Daly is a long snapper.
  • Jarron Jones, who played in South Bend 2012-2016 as a defensive lineman, was cut by the Tampa Buccaneers. That team had signed him in early August as an offensive lineman.
  • Nyles Morgan, who played for Notre Dame from 2014-2017, was cut by the Houston Texans. The Chicago Bears had signed Morgan as an undrafted free agent, but then released him in mid-May. He had joined the Texans on Aug. 21.

These former Irish were cut Friday: Michael Floyd and John Montelus, with Bennett Jackson landing on the Baltimore Ravens’ injured reserve.
