Finally, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish fans can start to move past a win — man, that sounds weird to say. Yes, the Irish didn’t play all that great against the Ball State Cardinals, but with the Vanderbilt Commodores coming to town, there isn’t any time to waste contemplating a game that Notre Dame was never in any real danger of losing.
That could prove trickier this week. Vandy is also 2-0 and has won by an average score of (about) 38-9. Yes, the wins were against mid-majors: the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders and the Nevada Wolfpack, but they were strong wins nonetheless.
Notre Dame was able to keep its #8 ranking intact after struggling to blow out Ball State, and will look to answer a lot of questions this week against a better opponent.
The Irish have played Vandy only 2 other times in their history. The Irish won a 41-0 game in South Bend in 1995, and then won a second time in 1996 on the road in Nashville, 14-7.
