After weeks of speculation, ESPN finally made it official. College Gameday will be in South Bend on September 1 for the season-opening game between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Michigan Wolverines.
We’re going back to where it all began ... South Bend, we’re coming to your city!— College GameDay (@CollegeGameDay) August 4, 2018
Michigan. Notre Dame. See you September 1! pic.twitter.com/kwcvy7FIJJ
There are a couple of obvious reasons here that have nothing to do with that “money” reason being thrown around (because duh).
- ESPN wants to celebrate the 25th anniversary of College Gameday, and the season-opener is a much safer bet (right now) than in November when the Florida State Seminoles come to town.
- It’s on a college campus.
- It’s Notre Dame vs Michigan so all other reasons are invalid.
The hype for this game is about to go above and beyond the already large amounts of shit-talking, and I can’t wait. While my Gameday viewing has decreased dramatically over the last decade, kicking off the season is always PEAK OUT OF CONTROL SO TUNED IN AND READY TO GO.
