It’s Official: ESPN College Gameday Will Be In South Bend For Notre Dame vs Michigan

Get your signs ready... ROCKY! ROCKY!! ROCKY!!!

NCAA Football: Michigan at Ohio State Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports

After weeks of speculation, ESPN finally made it official. College Gameday will be in South Bend on September 1 for the season-opening game between the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Michigan Wolverines.

This will be a matchup of #11 Notre Dame and #14 Michigan, which means that ESPN is passing on the higher ranked matchup of the #6 Washington Huskies and #10 Auburn Tigers.

There are a couple of obvious reasons here that have nothing to do with that “money” reason being thrown around (because duh).

  • ESPN wants to celebrate the 25th anniversary of College Gameday, and the season-opener is a much safer bet (right now) than in November when the Florida State Seminoles come to town.
  • It’s on a college campus.
  • It’s Notre Dame vs Michigan so all other reasons are invalid.

The hype for this game is about to go above and beyond the already large amounts of shit-talking, and I can’t wait. While my Gameday viewing has decreased dramatically over the last decade, kicking off the season is always PEAK OUT OF CONTROL SO TUNED IN AND READY TO GO.
