I just wanted to take a quick moment and wish you all a very happy and fun Independence Day. Fans of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish probably have a greater appreciation for the true meaning of independence than fans of other schools. It’s in our nature.

But enough of all of that. This country is divided enough without throwing college football bravado into the fire. Please enjoy the day and night with your friends and family and appreciate the freedoms you have as an American — freedoms that aren’t shared all over the world.
