How Are We Doing?

Well, we (the current regime) passed our two year anniversary on One Foot Down a few weeks ago, so it’s probably time for a little report card action. It’s been a fun, and interesting two years. It’s also been frustrating, and at times — well I just wanted to kick the crap out of a barn door.

So... how have we been doing?

That was a little blunt, so let me give a short stump speech before we get to that sort of thing.

Obviously football is King here, and I’m quite proud of what we’ve done over the past year. Having a 10 win season that saw Notre Dame actually win the 10 games as opposed to more than half being nudged by the grace of God helps. Need a refresher? We were organized af last season, and have the year neatly stored in a story stream (something that will continue in 2018).

Our basketball coverage was, again, pretty damn good. In fact, I think it was pretty solid considering the incredible amount of bad luck throughout the season. The hoops guys gave it their all even as the year crumbled into the NIT. We also provided a lot of coverage for the national champion women’s basketball team.

Something I’m really proud of was the way our hockey coverage just grew out of a bowl of nothing into a crock pot of awesome. That beautiful meal was served once Lino Garcia, Billy Gorman, and Michael Ivey were brought on board here at OFD. Seriously — it started with a “Hey we’re #1” post, to inquiries from people volunteering their time, to top to bottom coverage for the team, it’s Big 10 championships (regular season and tourney) as well as their heart pounding / heart breaking Frozen Four run. It was awesome.

We also managed to sneak in some other good things like women’s lacrosse, men’s lacrosse, fencing, and a lot of University news. Our staff is mainly intact from last year, but along with the three already mentioned, we added longtime friend, Lisa Kelly.

So, now that I tooted our horn a little bit, I nervously ask you again — how are we doing? Are we doing a good job? Is there something more you would like to see? Is there something you wish would just crawl into a hole and stay away forever? I’m going to put up a generic poll, but if there is something specific- please let us know in the comments below. We will certainly try to do our best.
