This dude is a beast, and he’s coming back

Here at OFD, we want to spice up the summer a bit. The offseason finds us with some quieter moments, so we want to fill that void with some profiles on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish team members. Here’s the 4-1-1 on our next guy.

#23 Drue Tranquill

Drue Tranquill is a guy that almost everyone seems to love. The dude has been a menace on defense, and he has only gotten better as the years have progressed. This Fort Wayne, IN native has that midwest kindness and care off the field with the power and tenacity on the field to go as hard as he can to succeed. Drue seemingly does it all, and I’m excited to see what this last year has in store for him.

Drue has switched positions a lot, but he has done well in them. Now, for this season, he will be an inside linebacker. I can’t wait for his dominance to stuff players up the middle. It should be fun to watch.

3 Things to Know About Drue Tranquill

  1. Last season, Drue was put into the Rover position after being a safety. To say he thrived would be an understatement. He had 85 total tackles and 10.5 of those were for a loss last season. This is after he had 79 tackles as a safety in 2016. Drue will now be in his third position, and I only see him continuing that trend.
  2. Drue is returning for his fifth year, which was a welcome surprise. It looked like he could’ve gotten a degree and maybe be drafted. However, since he got hurt in the 2015 season, he wanted to finish out his eligibility. Because of his tenacity and awesome play, he is returning as a captain for the team. He joins Mike McGlinchey and Zack Martin as the two-time captains under Brian Kelly.
  3. Drue is just an all-around good dude. He graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering while being a captain. Just insane. He also just tells it like it is, and he isn’t afraid to put in the necessary work every day. The guy balls out. I love it.

YouTube Hot Fire

This is when I knew he was going to be great, and this was back in 2015

This is why I love the way Drue is on and off the field. He meant this, too, and we went on an awesome run, especially defensively.

The whole interview is well done, but Drue here utters one of my favorite quotes of all time from a football player. The way he says it just gives you chills.

Country, Condiment, or Canon

Identifying the player as either a country, condiment, or member of the Star Wars Canon.

Frank’s Red Hot.

I put that **** on everything. And I really do. Drue Tranquill epitomizes Frank’s Red Hot. Now, I know we already had Tabasco, but Frank’s Red Hot is different. You actually can put it on just about everything. It gives you the great flavor you need when you need that kick. It packs a bit of a punch on everything, and it even might scare you a bit. That is why I love it, and that is why Drue is Frank’s Red Hot. He has played a few positions, and he is succeeding and spicing up every one. He packs a punch, and adds so much to your dish/team.

2018 Forecast

As mentioned, but Drue will be playing linebacker this year. I would expect the same dominance up the middle as he had all over the defense at Rover last year. He’s going to make sure that he continues to succeed in his last season - the reason why he wanted to come back for his fifth year. He’ll be looking to be a force out there on defense, and I believe that he will be one.
