This Guy Plays Notre Dame Football: #53 Khalid Kareem

New, 1 comment

The big defensive end is due for a breakout year.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have a roster full of players, and we want to talk about all of them. One Foot Down’s player profile series will take a look at every single one of them, and hopefully we all learn a little bit more about these guys, and Notre Dame’s chances for the upcoming 2018 season.

#53 Khalid Kareem

Khalid Kareem is one of the many talented rush ends that Notre Dame has on the roster. The problem is, none of them have shown the consistency needed to be at the top of college football. In 2016, Kareem played in all 13 games and recorded 3 sacks. He played mostly during passing downs and when other lineman needed a break. Kareem has the ability to take his game to the next level in 2018.

Three Things To Know About Khalid Kareem:

  1. He sacked Sam Darnold during Notre Dame’s rout of rival USC. Did you by chance know that Notre Dame won that game 49-14?
  2. Everyone knows this by now, but Kareem was originally committed to Alabama out of high school. He eventually flipped to Notre Dame and early enrolled in January 2016.
  3. Khalid Kareem is huge. Yes, most people assume a defensive lineman to be big. But Kareem stands out in a crowd. He is one of the players I walk by and stand in awe of his size. He weighs 270 pounds and stands at 6’4. To be honest, he looks even bigger than this in person.

Country, Condiment, Or Canon

Russia.

Do you guys remember when I said Khalid Kareem was huge? Because he is huge. For all the geography nerds out there, do you know what the biggest country in the world is? That would be Russia. Thus making Khalid Kareem and Russia very similar.

Size = Large.

2018 Outlook

There are a lot of ways to dive into this. Does anyone really know what to expect from Khalid Kareem in 2018? Not really. Would anyone be that surprised if Kareem lead Notre Dame with 8-10 sacks this year? Not at all.

The talent is there for a phenomenal season. Kareem has one of the highest upsides on the entire roster. Notre Dame fans need to hope that 2018 is the year Khalid Kareem puts it all together. He could be a dominate force along the defensive line. He is one of the more interesting players on the team. Only time will tell how good he becomes.

But with the size, strength and flashes of brilliance so far, I am excited to watch Khalid Kareem chase quarterbacks in 2018.
