He had a strong, breakout year last season

Here at OFD, we’re taking the summer to run through the list of Notre Dame Fighting Irish players. We want you to get to know a bit more about them. Next up is a breakout defensive end, Khalid Kareem.

#53 Khalid Kareem

Khalid is going into his junior season. Last season, he really came onto the scene. He was somewhat of a menace at defensive end, causing problems for a lot of the offenses that the Irish faced last season. It was great to see him step up in that capacity. I will be looking for more of that from him this coming season.

3 Things to Know About Khalid Kareem

  1. He hails from Pontiac, MI and the Detroit area (what up!) and went to Farmington Hills Harrison High School. That is the same school that produced current freshman Ovie Oghoufo.
  2. After not recording any tackles in his freshman season, last year Khalid had 20 tackles with 10 of those being solo tackles. He also had 3 sacks and 1 fumble recovery.
  3. He shares defensive end duties with Julian Okwara and Daelin Hayes.

He was a monster out there.

Ranch dressing.

Khalid is absolutely ranch dressing. He is on the table of many people for most meals. He is out there doing his thing and adding the flavor to many dishes. At D-End, he has been packing a punch and making a name for himself immediately, just as ranch always does for people. With his sacks, he is preparing for more of a sack lunch this coming season. For many lunches, ranch becomes essential to that sack lunch you would bring to work or to school.

2018 Forecast

Khalid put himself into a prime position last year to succeed even more at defensive end. He has a solid crew with him. However, I forsee him gaining the edge on the outside of the line even more. He can truly develop, and look for him to have even more of a stellar season. His skills and power will be a great addition to the line this season.
