Welcome to another Bagpipe Monday on One Foot Down. Friends, five months from today, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will have ended their regular season and will be back at home in South Bend. Five months from today, almost all of the questions we have about the program will be answered. Five months from today... is a long ways away.
As it goes every year in college football, there will be a handful of games for each team that will define the season. Although no one has a crystal ball (sorry 247) I think it’s safe to assume that winning or losing a big game can directly impact the next big game (or just the next game in general).
What will be the single most season-defining game of 2018 for the Irish?
Will it be the season opener against the Michigan Wolverines? The game could very well set the tone for the entire season with so much on the line for both teams and both coaches.
Maybe it’s the last game of September against the Stanford Cardinal? Notre Dame has been abysmal against David Shaw and his tree huggers over the last decade. Would a win here, as in 2012, propel the team into October and beyond?
Perhaps the first big road game of the season against the Virginia Tech Hokies will be that pivitol game? It will probably be a night game, and much like last year’s game against the Michigan State Spartans, and a win in their house could push them into November?
There’s that 25th anniversary game against the Florida State Seminoles in November. Can the Irish really get that November monkey off their back with all that Nole talent heading north?
If we are talking about the season ending game against the USC Trojans as being “pivotal” to Notre Dame’s chances in the College Football Playoffs... we already had a good season. A win in Los Angeles (in November) would make it a GREAT season.
What will be the most pivotal game of 2018 for Notre Dame?
This poll is closed
OTHER (You got some explaining to do)
So what game (just one) will be the BIGGEST? What game will mean THE MOST? Which game is the game of the year?
Again... there is no way of knowing for sure as we still sit in June, but we can take a couple of wild swings at it, and see what we come up with.
Enjoy the pipes (10 hours worth)!
