Fighting Irish vs Fighting Illini... EVERYBODY IS FIGHTING!

NCAA Basketball: Notre Dame at Syracuse Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

It was announced today that the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will take on the Illinois Fighting Illini in the 2018 ACC / Big 10 Challenge. The game is scheduled to be played on November 27 at Purcell Pavilion.

It will be the first time since 2015 (another ACC / Big 10 Challenge) that the Irish and Illini will play on the hardwood. This, however, is a series that has a decent amount of history.

Notre Dame and Illinois have played 41 times in the past, with the Illini holding a strong 27-14 advantage over the Irish. The two played almost every year between 1957 and 1973. Those games were always played in Chicago Stadium, and Illinois hasn’t played at Notre Dame since 1955.

The Irish beat Illinois the last time they played in 2015, 84-79.

Since joining the ACC, the Irish are 3-2 in the ACC / Big 10 Challenge with the two other wins coming against the Michigan State Spartans and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
