Prior to the start of the conference tournament, The ACC announced its all-conference teams for baseball and three Notre Dame players have been recognized for their performance this season. Second baseman Nick Podkul and outfielder Matt Vierling were named Second Team All-ACC while outfielder Eric Gilgenbach was named Third Team All-ACC.
Podkul, a junior, hit .321 this season with a .439 on-base percentage, good enough for seventh in the conference. He added in 40 runs and 40 RBI while starting all 52 games for the Irish this season.
Vierling, who also started all 52 games for the team this season, slashed .317/.411/.505. The junior contributed 9 home runs and 41 RBI. He hit in 21 of 26 conference games this year, good enough for a .333 AVG including 20 RBI.
Gilgenbach, another junior, led the team with 10 home runs and 44 RBI. He also contributed a .992 FLD% with five assists from right field.
After the junior seasons that each has put up, it would not be a surprise if all three were selected during the MLB Draft next week. They will look to continue their solid play as they head into the ACC tournament.
