Even with spring football raging, and a “quarterback battle” brewing for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, perhaps the biggest storyline for the football program has been the recruitment of Texas defensive end, NaNa Osafo-Mensah.
The Irish were battling everyone in the country, but over a short course of time, Notre Dame was going head-to-head against the in-state powerhouse, Texas Longhorns. Not only were the Irish taking on the Horns for NaNa, but they were also challenging them for Georgia defensive back, Kenyatta Watson.
Watson’s recruitment moved like a hurricane in favor of Texas, and not long ago he committed to Tom Herman and the Horns. Around that time, many were predicting that NaNa was going to go the same route - but then an official visit to Notre Dame came and went.
Notre Dame needed a phenomenal visit with Osafo-Mensah to stay in the race, and the Irish actually blew him away. So much in fact, that after the visit, the predictions to Texas started heading back towards Notre Dame, and the word was getting around that the Irish had an enormous lead.
Texas got the final official visit, but despite their best efforts, there seemed to be no change in the status of NaNa. Notre Dame still looked to be the leader.
Now, we have all seen strange things in recruiting, and NOTHING is ever a done deal until there is a signature on a letter of intent — but all signs are pointing to the Irish being his school of choice when he makes his announcement this evening at his high school (around 6:30).
Someone sure is excited...
You ever lay awake at night in anticipation of something HUGE that’s potentially going to happen the next day?? Yeah, me too!!
