I am still getting used to this number change also...

Rolling along in this player profile series and we have landed on Donte Vaughn. I was not sure why he was assigned to me so early in the process. I had completely forgotten Vaughn switched from #35 to #8 this year. Anyway, here is how I see Donte Vaughn up to now.

Looking To The Past

Donte Vaughn was part of a freshman cornerback group that saw significant playing time in 2016. He competed in 8 games as a freshman and even intercepted 1 pass. His playing time was cut down in 2017 on defense as he was mainly a factor on special teams. Vaughn has shown flashes of being able to be a significant contributor on defense. The consistent play is what has been missing from Donte Vaughn’s play. A big junior season could be in store for the newly crowned #8.

Three Things To Know About Donte Vaughn

  1. Vaughn is enrolled in the College of Arts and Letters, majoring in Sociology.
  2. Coming out of high school, Donte Vaughn was ranked in the top 301 in all three major recruiting websites (ESPN, Scout, Rivals).
  3. His only career interception came in 2016 against Duke. It was a game that Notre Dame eventually lost that I have tried my hardest to forget.

Bahamas.

I am going to totally go out on a limb here. Donte Vaughn is sneaky underrated at what he does. I feel like this compares to the Bahamas as people look at it as only vacation destination. The place itself is overlooked. I just googled the Bahamas and learned they have a great economy. This is mostly due to the tourism influx but either way, top notch economy. Donte Vaughn is a sneaky reliable player. He is good enough to play cornerback at Notre Dame and will prove that this year.

2018 Outlook

Donte Vaughn immediately became more important when Nick Watkins decided to transfer from the program. He is part of a four man cornerback rotation for 2018. As most football fans know, you need to go four deep at that position. This Notre Dame football team is going to need Donte Vaughn to make a big at some point this season.

He is a man with a lot to prove this year.
