Bagpipe Monday: What Are Your Expectations For Notre Dame Football In 2018?

Welcome back to Bagpipe Monday on One Foot Down. Friends, with the end of spring football and the NFL Draft, we are starting up the official offseason for Notre Dame football. It’s a long four months, but if you ask nicely - I will hold your hand and lead you to the light.

There will be many questions asked and many opinions given over this time, but the most important of which all point in the same direction... what will the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team accomplish in 2018?

It’s a tricky season to predict.

Last year the Irish were coming off a horrific year, and all logic pointed towards an improved record. No one was really sure how improved they would be, and expectations were generally mild (for Notre Dame Standards). Those expectations grew to extraordinary heights by midseason - only to be tragically deflated in November.

So here we are. So many pieces of a good football team return this season, and yet - HUGE (literally) pieces of the success Notre Dame had last year are gone. It’s a tough schedule, but not overly brutal (not yet).

Is there a chance for a magical season? Are we setup for another 8 or 9 win season? These questions get asked in a thousand different ways, but it all boils down to the basics of what your expectations are as we sit in the spring.
