The Notre Dame Fighting Irish just got five commitments in five days, and is scorching hot on the football recruiting trail. A little less than a week ago, Notre Dame “only” had three players committed to the 2019 class - but all three were really good 4-Star prospects.
- DT Hunter Spears
- DT Jacob Lacey
- CB K.J. Wallace
Despite the high quality of those players, and it being relatively early in the recruiting cycle, Notre Dame fans were getting a little concerned with a couple of battles with the Texas Longhorns and the running back big board depleting by the day.
While those concerns are still 100% valid today, minds have been eased greatly by an avalanche of commitments for the 2019 recruiting class over the past five days - five commitments in five days.
- OL John Olmstead
- DB Litchfield Ajavon
- DE Howard Cross
- OL Andrew Kristofic
- DB Kyle Hamilton
Without asking the question, this was obviously a tactical decision by Notre Dame and its recruits to go public one day at a time here. It allows each recruit their “day in the sun” and it keeps the good vibes of each commitment a longer life. For whatever reason, recruiting has peaks and valleys, and momentum (perceived or otherwise) helps with the long haul.
This harvest of commitments has rocketed the Fighting Irish to #12 in the 247 Team Composite Rankings after sitting around #30 just 6 days ago. Whether it’s good news or bad news, many fans are quick to point out that this “is only April.” I applaud them for being able to read a calandar, but the recruiting calandar this year is completely different than at any time before 2019.

With the addition of the December signing period, recruits are able to take official visits in the spring for the first time ever. So not only can recruits sign two months earlier, they are getting the red carpet treatment FIVE months earlier. April ain’t just April any longer.
SO WHO IS NEXT?
It seems like a ridiculous question given the 5 for 5 we have just witnessed - but it’s exactly because of that phenom that we ask the question. This can’t end now - can it?
The most logical next commitment is probably Minnesota 4-Star offensive lineman, Quinn Carroll. The mammoth prospect is considered a heavy Notre Dame lean right now, and it has some insiders believing that he is certainly next.
Now... that doesn’t mean that he will pop on Wednesday just to make it 6 commitments in 6 days, but it also wouldn’t surprise me much either.
After Carroll, perhaps the next closest prospect that is ready to commit, is the recruit we covet the most right now; 4-Star Defensive End NaNa Osafo-Mensah. Notre Dame hit it out of the park with NaNa’s official visit last week, and by most accounts has surged to be his leader. NaNa takes an official visit to Texas this weekend, and then will announce on May 19th.
I realize that’s over 3 weeks away, and we are all spoiled now, but it has a great chance of being well worth the wait.
