The Notre Dame Fighting Irish hockey team is on their way to St. Paul for the Frozen Four after beating Michigan Tech in the First round, and Providence in the second round. Their first opponent in the Frozen Four?

The Michigan Wolverines.

You’re looking at that correctly... three of the four teams are from the Big 10. Remember... Notre Dame won the regular season Big 10 Title AND the Big 10 Conference Tournament.

While that’s great and all, Notre Dame’s reign as the Kings of the Big 10 doesn’t mean much come Thursday. After all - we don’t think like Bo Shembechler. In fact, the Irish were swept by the Wolverines in the first conference series after they won the regular season crown.

Notre Dame is still in search of its first national championship in hockey, and this is just their 4th time that the Irish have made it to the Frozen Four. Michigan has made the cut 25 times - tied for the most ever Frozen Four appearances. Lat year, the Irish made the Frozen Four in Chicago, but were soundly beaten by eventual national champions, the Denver Pioneers.

Tune in Thursday night at 9:30 on ESPN2 to watch the Irish in action. The winner will face the winner of Minnesota-Duluth and Ohio State.
