The Irish Are Going Dancing
At least one of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Basketball teams are in the NCAA Tournament. As it was announced tonight, the Irish Women’s Team is a Number 1 Seed in the Spokane Region.
Two weekends ago, the Irish played their way into the ACC Tournament Championship against Louisville. After beating Virginia and then Florida State, they had a battle with the Cardinals to decide the outright championship. After a back and forth game, the Irish finally broke and couldn’t make many shots down the stretch. It was frustrating to say the least to come up 2 points short against Louisville to lose 74-72.

Even though the Irish couldn’t clinch their sixth straight conference tournament win (4 ACC titles and also the 2013 Big East Tournament championship), they are able to kick off a strong NCAA Tournament.
Even without the ACC title, the Irish were still named a #1 seed in the coming tournament. From where the season was with the 4 players lost to the same ACL injury, getting to a #1 seed is an amazing accomplishment.
The Irish Road to Columbus
The Final Four this year resides in Columbus, OH. To begin that road, the Irish begin at home. Because they are one of the top 16 seeds in the tournament, the Irish get the chance to host the first 2 rounds of the tournament. So, the Irish will play the #16 seed CSU Northridge. If they were to win, they would play the winner of #8 South Dakota St. and #9 Villanova.
Game 1 is Friday, March 16th at 5 PM on ESPN2 from Purcell Pavilion. Game #2 would be Sunday at a time to be determined.
