Welcome to Bagpipe Monday on One Foot Down! Friends, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are on a bit of a break with their spring football training with spring break and all that noise. For fans, instead of filling their football souls with NCAA Tournament glory, we are now forced to choke down the NIT - and we will do so gladly... for the seniors.

The recent NCAA snubbing does give us a little more brain bandwidth to really start diving down into the depths of our football imaginations.
- What’s in store for next season?
- Who steps up?
- What 4 (or more) players will be off the roster come August?
- Brandon Wimbush vs Ian Book
- How will Clark Lea keep a good thing going?
And on and on. We really have nothing but questions at this moment, as I have posted more than a few times already. There is one question, however, that we equally dread, and look forward to each spring...
Who is going to be the Spring MVP? Who will be the hero of March and April?
Notre Dame has certainly had their fair share of “spring heroes” that become “fall zeroes” (Junior Jabbie, Anthony Vernaglia, Emeka Nwankwo, etc.) but I’m more interested in the “hope” rather than the “reality” at this point.
Right now, there is a fine list of hopeful players on the spring roster with plenty to prove and gain in the coming months:
- Jordan Genmark Heath
- Josh Lugg
- Jafar Armstrong
- Michael Young
- Asmar Bilal
These players (and a handful more) have a chance to be added to the list of “Spring MVP’s” but they also have a chance to be much more - much, much more. Who actually rises above the recent history of the Spring MVP?

Each name mentioned could have a big season for the Irish, and if they all do, we might be pretty damn happy come November - well... at least November 1st anyways. It’s still a crapshoot after that.
Enjoy the pipes!
