As the final signatures were being added to the 2018 recruiting class for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Brian Kelly took to the podium. The press conference was a much shorter edition than we have normally seen throughout the years, but that is mainly because of the first signing day wave in December when the Irish brought in 21 players.
Part two was equally successful as Notre Dame added 6 more players today. Only ONE was committed to Notre Dame beforehand (Luke Jones). The other five were a mix of sure thing and surprise - with the two biggest surprises being 4 star offensive lineman Jarrett Patterson and 4 star cornerback Noah Boykin.
Kelly seemed very confident in what they had done with this class as well as whatever plan they have for the future. It was the biggest class of the Brian Kelly era with 27 players signed. It also puts Notre Dame 4 scholarships over the 85 man limit. Kelly said they were comfortable with that number right now, and then he confirmed that all the guys we have pencilled in as 5th year players really are coming back.
It was a really good day for Notre Dame football recruiting, and much better than what we had anticipated yesterday.
Kelly's presser is around the 2:10 mark.
