The Notre Dame Fighting Irish got a HUGE win on National Signing Day with the addition of 4 Star Offensive Lineman Jarrett Patterson. Patterson signed with Irish after being courted by a long list of schools. He was once committed to the Arizona State Sun Devils, but decommitted after a bunch of turmoil going on there.
Notre Dame hadn't even offered Patterson until January.
Jarrett was heavily considering the Michigan Wolverines, and many thought it was between the Irish and the Skunkbears. Chip Kelly started throwing some weight around and the UCLA Bruins became a major player.
This all really came down to a "comfort level" for Patterson. Notre Dame is a great fit for him both on and off the field. While this recruitment looked like it was left for dead on Tuesday, the Irish never let up and stayed in contact with Patterson to answer his questions and put him at ease with his concerns.
It wasn't an easy task, as the relationship with Patterson was fairly new, and one of the concerns is the "distance factor" between California and South Bend. In the end, however, Notre Dame was able to put his mind at ease and allow him to choose the Irish.
Patterson is the highest rated offensive lineman in this class for the Irish. Notre Dame is looking to continue the incredible success it had along the line under Harry Hiestand as it is now under the direction of Jeff Quinn.
Look for Patterson to be redshirted as a freshman, and then maybe he develops into a 2 or 3 years starter down the road.
WELCOME TO NOTRE DAME JARRETT!
