The recruitment of Lawrence Keys has felt like one long ride across the desert. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish could see the horizon but it was still so very far away. Keys took his time - to say the least. Perhaps it was the way in which he was recruited by other schools that forced him to take the full time given.
Keys chose the Irish over the Texas Longhorns, SMU Mustangs, and Houston Cougars. It's hard to know what concerns were being expressed about his size from other schools, but there is no question about his speed and quickness.
Lawrence is a KEY addition to a wide receiver class that is among the best in recent memory for the Fighting Irish. Notre Dame casted a wide net for receivers this year, and the combination of Keys, Kevin Austin, Braden Lenzy, and Micah Jones gives the Irish an awesome variety pack of pass-catchers with speed, size, and hands.
This was huge win for the Irish. Instead of looking at SMU and Houston, Notre Dame fans should concentrate on winning over another recruit from Louisiana, and the inroads they continue to make in one of the more talent rich states in the country.
Until fall camp hits, it's hard to see if Keys will have a role in this offense in 2018, but given his athleticism, it would be hard to not see him contributing heavily in the future.
