Welcome to another Bagpipe Monday on One Foot Down. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are just a few days away from signing (possibly) the biggest class of the Brian Kelly era, and everything is geared around recruiting right now.
Not only has it been the focus for the Irish, it has (obviously) been the focus anywhere Notre Dame football is discussed. Not only is recruiting a ridiculously important part of the football program, it can also be used as a tool to gauge the state of the program as well. Basically... a good season usually means a good recruiting class will follow. A couple of good seasons usually means a couple of good recruiting classes - and so on.
Notre Dame hasn’t had two GREAT recruiting classes in a row since the 2007 and 2008 classes. Those classes were ranked #6 and #2 respectively. Oddly enough, those classes came on the heels of a disappointing 2006 campaign and the disastrous 3-9 season of 2007.
After a horrible 4-8 season in 2016, Notre Dame was able to stay strong, and close strong with its recruiting class, and that class ended up being ranked the #10 group in the country. Now the Irish are set up to possibly (and realistically) have a HUGE signing day. It has the chance to be a top 10 type of class, which would be the best two year haul since the 2013 and 2014 classes which were ranked #5 and #11 respectively.
Can they do it?
You should all know the names involved for National Signing Day by know, and if you don't, I'll have yet another reminder posted by tomorrow. So... what do you think? Can the Irish pull off another top 10 class and set up for a better future? What kind of confidence do you have in Brian Kelly and his staff to close the deal on some of these guys?
Notre Dame's National Signing Day will be...
This poll is closed
A big day - a lot of wins.
A good day - some wins.
A crap day - WHERE THEM WINS GO SON?
The good news is that we only have another day to wait to find out what decision these prospects will be making.
Hold on tight! Enjoy the pipes!
