Notre Dame Football: Early Enrollees Get Their Jersey Numbers

Early bird gets the digits and you get the notes.

Spring football is getting closer and closer for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, which means we are closer and closer to seeing the seven early enrollees on the field. Before that happens, the new freshmen get to pick their new jersey number.

Here’s what they got via Irish Illustrated:

  • #3 Houston Griffith, Cornerback
  • #29 Ovie Oghoufo, Linebacker
  • #31 Jack Lamb, Linebacker
  • #34 Jahmir Smith, Running Back
  • #52 Bo Bauer, Linebacker
  • #80 Micah Jones, Wide Receiver
  • #85 George Takacs, Tight End

Griffith gets the legendary #3. It has needed a bit more star power since Michael Floyd graduated.

Oghoufo nabs the #29, and should be the only one wearing that number with departure of Kevin Stepherson. Jashaad Gaines once had this number (solid trivia).

Jack Lamb took #31 because one of his heroes is the former star linebacker for the Penn State Nittany Lions, Paul Posluszny.

The #34 finds yet another master in Jahmir Smith. Tony Jones Jr. is changing his number (most likely to his old HS number #4). This means that 3 members of the 2018 Irish backfield all once had #34 (Dexter Williams).

Bo Bauer takes an old school linebacker number with #52. It brings back complex memories of Joe Brockington.

Micah Jones takes a “tight end number” with #80 previously being owned by Durham Smythe and Tyler Eifert.

George Takacs choice of #85 absolutely brings back memories of Troy Niklas. Will George rip his shirt off at every chance possible?
