As with most years, Notre Dame wanted to get deeper and more athletic on the backend of its defense. Despite the appearance of a logjam at safety, the reality is that the depth would be a real issue after 2019. The Irish went after (then) 3 Star safety, Kyle Hamilton from Georgia, and got a post spring game commitment.
It’s official now, as Kyle has sent in his NLI to Notre Dame this morning during the early signing period for college football.
Hamilton has had a meteoric rise in the recruiting rankings since the spring. Where he was once a mid 3 Star prospect with a 5 Star offer list, he’s now a high 4 Star that no one would argue if he edged into 5 Star status. In fact... he is Notre Dame’s highest ranked recruit in this class.
Hamilton is the total package at safety. The 6’3” 195 pounder has all the physical tools to be a ball hawk safety, and he has the skillset to match. Great closing speed, good instincts, and plays with confidence and a physicality needed to excel at the highest level.
It was a nice little recruitment for Notre Dame as all the big boys wanted Hamilton’s services. The Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, Clemson Tigers, and a long list of other schools were told “no” early, and Notre Dame welcomed him home.
Hamilton is the second safety to commit to the 2019 class, and new safeties coach, Terry Joseph, is largely responsible for both Hamilton’s and Litchfield Ajavon’s commitments. These are big time commitments that Notre Dame is getting in April - but continued success in their senior season’s will mean that Notre Dame will have to lock them down completely until signing day in December.
