Notre Dame men’s basketball got off to a great start in the 2018-2019 season. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish defeated the Illinois-Chicago Flames by a score of 84-67. Notre Dame was in charge of this game right from the tip. It was a good performance after coming off some less than impressive exhibition games. I think we learned quite a bit about this young Irish team.
Fun To Watch
They are young and inexperienced for the most part. This makes the Notre Dame basketball team fun to watch. They play hard and make mistakes. They are young and talented. I am sure we will go game to game and not know what to expect. Mike Brey has his hands full but I bet he is more excited for this year than any other. The highs will be awesome and the lows will be lonely. Just embrace it and have fun watching this team grow.

DJ Harvey Is Back
I remember last year thinking there was a chance DJ Harvey could miss this season after having knee surgery last year. I think he is the most talented player on the roster. Watching him play 24 minutes and finish with 10 points and 6 rebounds was a great sign. He will have to get back into game shape and get his rhythm back. Watch for DJ Harvey to be the go to guy by the time ACC play starts.
I Am Not Sure Who The Best Freshman Is...
Notre Dame has some darn good freshman. I just have no clue who the best one is at this point. All showed flashes of being able to play. Robby Carmody and Dane Goodwin stood out the most in this first game. Both are athletic players on the wing who can shoot and play solid defense. In today’s age of basketball, you can never have too many good wing players. But the jury is still out on which freshman will step up and be the gem of the 2018 recruiting class.

Notre Dame football and basketball are both undefeated. Cherish this moment. The Irish basketball team will look to improve to 2-0 against the worst division 1 basketball team, Chicago State. This game will tip off Thursday November 8th at the Joyce Center.
