Bagpipe Monday: Should Notre Dame End The Shamrock Series Forever?

Can we unplug this like Enter Sandman?

NCAA Football: Michigan at Notre Dame Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome to another Bagpipe Monday on One Foot Down! Friends, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are 10-0 and hurtling towards a berth in the college football playoff. They need to win out to get into the playoff — especially with the narrative the media has been spinning for the last 5 weeks or so.

Bagpipe Monday Notre Dame @phillykelly

There are only two games left, with the first one being against the Syracuse Orange in Yankee Stadium for a Shamrock Series event.

Look, I’ve gone on the record quite a number of times when it comes to the Shamrock Series. I think it’s pure garbage, and it has nothing to do with the uniforms. Notre Dame spent almost a half a billion dollars to spruce up Notre Dame Stadium, and Jack Swarbrick would rather go play in a baseball stadium. That, and many other reasons have forced me to carry the banner to end the Shamrock Series forever.

It’s not the most popular opinion with Notre Dame fans, but I think that’s because they have been sold such a bill of goods (phantom goods) that it’s hard for them to see beyond the shine.

So here we are, and there is less than a week to go until the next version of this series commences in New York City (for the second time). You’ve heard most of the arguments for and against the Shamrock Series for a number of years now, so what do you think?

Should Notre Dame end this thing forever? Do you think they should schedule one of these every year? Are you a little more indifferent, and think it’s okay to do every once in a while as long as it doesn’t affect your family life and health?

I am looking for as blunt of a vote as possible. Because of the nature of this thing, I realize there may even be conflicting feelings about the Shamrock Series. That’s fine (I guess). Feel free to express those in the comments below.

Enjoy the pipes!
