Bagpipe Monday: Can The Irish Reboot The Pitt Hate?

The weekly poll and pipes drops a bomb.

Mike Miller/One Foot Down

Welcome back to a 6-0 and top 5 Bagpipe Monday on One Foot Down! Friends, the Irish keep marching towards possible greatness this year after they beat the Virginia Tech Hokies 45-23 in Blacksburg. That’s awesome and all, but now they must face SUPER DEATH GIANTS... the Pittsburgh Panthers.

Bagpipe Monday Notre Dame @phillykelly

I am well aware that Pit is even more mediocre than their usual mediocre selves this year. They aren’t awful, but they ain’t that good either. Where does Pitt rank in some basic categories?

  • 119th in passing offense (149.2 yds)
  • 39th in rushing offense (203.8 yds)
  • 91st in scoring offense (26.3 ppg)
  • 99th in scoring defense (32.8 ppg)

It doesn’t exactly inspire a bunch of hype or hate for this weekend — and that’s a shame.

Pitt is one of those programs that Notre Dame has a long history with over the years. Notre Dame has played Pitt 69 time with the Irish winning 47 of those games and one of the games was a tie (0-0 in 1911 was off the charts brutal).

Pitt HAS won 4 of the last 9 games though, so if you need something to hold on to, I suppose that has a little fire.

  • Never forget Stephon Tuitt
  • Never forget Tyler Palko
  • Never forget Charlie Weis
  • Never forget they tried to steal our color scheme (which is dumb because their OG uniforms with the Pitt script is so dope)

And that’s all I really have. Hopefully we can work ourselves into a frenzy and then drop a huge Dexter bomb on them.

Your pipes is actually the greatest postgame interview NBC ever did after a Notre Dame game (followed by the ridiculous apology and shaming from the big-headed one... Tom Hammond).
