The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will find out their place in the playoff rankings in a little while, but for right now they are 8-0 and ranked #3 in the country. After 9 weeks and 8 games, I think it’s fair to say that most of what has transpired for Notre Dame this season (and college football in general) wasn’t foreseen by anyone.
Back in the summer, many of those that follow the Irish thought that at this point, Notre Dame probably should have had one or two losses. November was going to be about scratching up the playoff rankings, and trying to sneak into the playoffs.
It’s a whole different situation right now, and directly in front of the Irish are the Northwestern Wildcats. It’s a team that has had some ups and downs this season, but after wins over Michigan State and Wisconsin — they’re feeling pretty good. Having played Michigan pretty tough probably helps those feelings as well.
For Notre Dame, this game represents most of the demons over the last decade:
- November
- Night game
- On the road
- A ton to play for
The Irish have so much right in front of them, and all they need to do is take care of business over the final month.
Those are some famous final words for quite a few seasons. Follow along all week in this stream as we cover Notre Dame vs Northwestern. Maybe we can get the Shillelagh to the game for more awesomeness, but if not — 9-0 could be so sweet.
