Welcome to another Bagpipe Monday on One Foot Down! Friends, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are 7-0 and are currently ranked #3 in both the AP and Coaches Polls. It’s looking like a “playoffs or bust” kind of a year.

Before the season started, most reasonable people had the Irish picked as a 10-2 or 9-3 team. We didn’t have the good fortune of knowing what we now know about the Irish OR their opponents.
Now that things are started to become a bit clearer, fans are obviously rabid for a playoff run. Winning changes perspective, and it creates larger expectations. Notre Dame’s biggest threat right now is what it has been since August, and that’s the month of November.
The Irish still have to beat the Navy Midshipmen in October to get to that level, but we can still look ahead (because we aren’t coaches or players). The month of November still holds:
- @ Northwestern Wildcats (night game)
- Florida State Seminoles (senior day)
- Syracuse Orange (Yankee Stadium)
- @ USC Trojans
It’s very doable, but still has enough quirky bits to it that could cause the Irish to stumble.
So, we now know what we know. Almost everyone that had picked the Irish to go 10-2 or 9-3 has the Irish finishing the season at 12-0 and playoff bound. What will satisfy you this season?

What type of person are you — what kind of fan are you? I don’t think there’s a correct answer to any of these questions, but it does say a lot about what’s at stake this season.
The biggest obstacle is always the one directly in front of you, so the team shouldn’t focus on anything bu Navy and stopping the triple-option, but as each week stacks up, I’m sure they know what they’re playing for every time they step on the field. As I said though WE can definitely see beyond the horizon.
What will make us happy?
Enjoy the pipes!
