Thought
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are currently sitting at 5-0 and head into Blacksburg Saturday Night to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies. The matchups seems significantly less daunting after the Hokies lost both their starting quarterback and their pride against Old Dominion a couple weeks back. However, this environment will be hostile, and we saw what that type of environment did to the Irish last year.....(screams internally thinking of Miami)
Regardless of how you slice it, Notre Dame should be favored in ALL of the remaining 7 games. There is seemingly an “easy” path towards the playoffs. However, if history tells me anything, we are up for some serious heartbreak or at least uncomfortable heartburn at some point this season. As a fan base, are we ready for this type of emotional roller coaster? Are we willing to really commit to this? Once you go down this path it turns from being, “happy with a 10 win” season to a “playoff or bust” mentality.
Personally, I need this week to really validate if the Irish are for real for real. Our only road test is a sleepy Noon game against Wake Forest vs. an extremely unmatched defense. This week the opponent is not scary on paper, but the environment will be electric. Either way, we are getting to that tipping point. Let’s just say if I was a dementor I would keep my eyes on the Notre Dame scores in the coming weeks, as there are real possibilities that some soul sucking could happen.
All of this really begs the question.......As a fanbase....Are we really doing this?
