Notre Dame Football: Freshman DE Jonathon MacCollister Transferring To UCF Knights

He’s doing a position switch too.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are in the thick of transfer season in South Bend, and get their 3rd one in as many days. Freshman defensive end Jonathon MacCollister will transfer to a national champion - the UCF Knights.

While MacCollister was never a name that had been mentioned before as a transfer candidate, it is still common for a freshman to look elsewhere after a redshirt season. If he truly wants to play tight end, Notre Dame is probably not the place as they continually load up with some of the best tight ends in the country each recruiting cycle.

MacCollister’s move does make more room on Notre Dame’s roster for 2018, but as the scholarship shows, there is more space needed before August comes around. Whether that’s via guys leaving early for the NFL Draft, or more transfers is anyone’s guess at the moment - but they are coming.
