Grace Hall Julie Hauenstein

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are the #1 ranked hockey team in the country. The ranking comes via the USA Hockey Magazine / USA Today poll. The Irish were ranked #3 last week, but vaulted to the top in the new set of rankings.

The Top 5

  1. Notre Dame
  2. St. Cloud State
  3. Clarkson
  4. Cornell
  5. Denver

Notre Dame is cruising in their opening season as a member of the Big 10. The Irish are undefeated in conference play with 10 wins. They are currently on a 13 game winning streak with an overall record of 16-3-1.

As is tradition at Notre Dame, whenever any sports team is ranked #1 in the country, the #1 sign that sits atop Grace Hall is lighted up.

We at One Foot Down apologize for our lack of coverage for the hockey team. We just don’t have anyone on staff that is able to cover Notre Dame hockey. However... if this is something that YOU would be interested in, please let me know and I’m sure we can find a home for you.

Next up for the Irish are conference rival (sounds gross) the Michigan Wolverines. From

Game one will be played at 6:30 p.m. ET Friday, Jan. 5, in Ann Arbor, Michigan (Big Ten Network), while the Irish will host the Wolverines at 3:05 p.m. ET Sunday, Jan. 7, at the Compton Family Ice Arena (NBC Sports Network).

If you aren’t familiar with the Irish hockey team, give them your eyeballs as they press towards the goal of a Frozen Four appearance and a national championship.
