Brian Kelly has dismissed four players from the football team for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. In a report first filed by Irish Illustrated, running back C.J. Holmes, running back Deon McIntosh, wide receiver Kevin Stepherson, and defensive tackle Brandon Tiassum are no longer a part of the program after getting the boot from Kelly.

Stepherson was an obvious decision after three public offenses and who knows how many team rules violations.
The surprising part was the other three. Holmes was a part of sweatpantgate with Stepherson - but it was a first offense. McIntosh broke a team rule (as far as we know) and Tiassum... some fans only know Brandon Tiassum because he’s eating up a scholarship.
Is this a new and tougher Brian Kelly? Are the changes that he’s trying to make include a much tougher stance against shenanigans?
I think it’s really hard to say without knowing all the details. A few things I do know:
- Notre Dame will have 3 scholarship running backs this fall.
- Notre Dame is now sitting one scholarship under the 85 limit.
I think it’s safe to say we will talk much more about this in the near future.
January is just FULL of news.
