The Notre Dame Fighting Irish finally got a bit of good news this offseason. Junior defensive tackle Jerry Tillery will return to Notre Dame for his senior year according to a report from Irish Illustrated’s Pete Sampson.
By all accounts, Tillery had a great year for the Irish after struggling a bit as a sophomore which ended with him kicking a player for the USC Trojans in the head while he was down. It was uncharacteristic for Tillery, and he went on to have a good junior year with no incidents.
Even after losing defensive coordinator Mike Elko to the Texas A&M Aggies, the Irish look to have a lot of key starters back in 2018. Tillery is a huge part of the puzzle, and should continue to improve his play - as well as his draft stock.
As of publishing, we are still waiting to hear what linebacker Te’von Coney’s decision will be regarding the NFL Draft.
