WATCH: Notre Dame Wins Incredible Citrus Bowl Over LSU, 21-17

The dull turned AMAZING IN ORLANDO!

NCAA Football: Citrus Bowl-Notre Dame vs Louisiana State Matt Stamey-USA TODAY Sports

Everything that fans of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish fear, pretty much happened today in the Citrus Bowl against the LSU Tigers.

  • A stagnant offense? CHECK
  • Little Dexter Williams? CHECK
  • Quarterback hooks? CHECK

The game itself got off to a slow start, as far as points were concerned, but it quickly evolved into one of those exciting SEC games devoid of a scoreboard being lit up. Sound defense from both sides of the ball, and special teams mishaps saw this game head into the half with Notre Dame holding onto a 3-0 lead thanks to Justin Yoon.

By that time, Brian Kelly had already started injecting Ian Book into the game with Brandon Wimbush having his normal struggles. Josh Adams was doing nothing more than chipping at the Tiger defense, and a ton of uncertainty surrounded the Irish as the second half began.

LSU started to pick up a ton of momentum with 2 different touchdown drives, and at 14-6... Notre Dame was in big trouble.

Ian Book drove the team down and found Freshman wide receiver, Michael Young, in the back of the endzone and a 2 point conversion run from Adams made it a tie game with a little over seven and a half minutes to go.

LSU then took their next drive and marched it down the field behind strong running from Derrius Guice and Darrel Williams. Danny Etling was strong in the pocket, and he help gut LSU down inside the redzone. The Notre Dame defense held at the goaline, and the Tigers kicked a field goal to go up 17-14 with 2 minutes left.

AND THEN INCREDIBLE HAPPENED!!!!

Ian Book found Miles Boykin and the receiver went 55 yards for the game leading touchdown to make it 21-17. OH MY GOD!!!

More to come on One Foot Down.
