Notre Dame Football: Week 5 Betting Lines For Irish & All Their Opponents

Notre Dame is a three touchdown favorite at home this week.

Miami Ohio v Cincinnati

Oddsmakers believe the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are in for an easy win Saturday.

The home team is a three touchdown favorite over the Miami-Ohio Redhawks (a/k/a Miami University RedHawks), in a game that will be played at 5 p.m. on NBC Sports Network.

Just as the Irish are 3-1 in the 2017 season, they are 3-1 against the spread this year. An “over” bet has also paid three out of the four times, with the lone “under” win being against the Georgia Bulldogs.

The RedHawks are one of four teams on Notre Dame’s schedule who are underdogs in their Week 5 games. The others are the Temple Owls (+14 hosting the Houston Cougars), North Carolina Tarheels (+9.5 at Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets) and Wake Forest Demon Deacons (+7.5 hosting the Florida State Seminoles).

While I write this betting lines story weekly, I actually don’t bet on games. If I did have money to wager this week, I’d put it down on the Deacs who are

  1. undefeated in four games
  2. at home
  3. getting more than a touchdown from oddsmakers
  4. playing a team that hasn’t yet won a game
  5. playing a team with a true freshman under center in his first road start

POINTS!

Oklahoma State Cowboys at Texas Tech Red Raiders
Over/under: 81 points
8 p.m. Saturday on FOX

Last week, we suggested you watch the Oregon Ducks and Arizona State Sun Devils if you wanted to enjoy maximum fireworks. The Sun Devils prevailed, 37-35, but the over wasn’t broached. Bummer.

The game to watch — although it would have required a split screen since it aired simultaneously with the Irish — was the Oklahoma Sooners’ 49-41 win over the hapless Baylor Bears. Pew pew pew. The Big 12 once again offers a “defense optional” product.

Oddsmakers say the Big 12 will once again provide for us on Saturday night, when Oklahoma State — fresh off their combined 75 point affair with the TCU Horned Frogs — will clash with Texas Tech in Lubbock.

If you get the CBS Sports Network, you may want to start your afternoon with the South Florida Bulls playing in Greenville against the East Carolina Pirates. USF is a 23 point favorite for the noon game, but the over/under is also 81 points. East Carolina is a dreadful 1-3, including a 20 point loss to an FCS team. Is this the exception to the rule “take the points in a shootout?”

UPDATED PLAYOFF ODDS

The Irish are back as 66-to-1 favorites to make the College Football Playoff, which oddsmakers figure is as of good of a chance as the winless Seminoles. College football is funny sometimes.
