There was almost too much “new” going on with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football program to process. Through it all though, new starting quarterback Brandon Wimbush (17-30 184 yards 2 TD 1 INT, 106 rushing yards 1 TD) did enough, and got a ton of help from junior running back Josh Adams (19 carries 163 yards 2 TD’s) to get the win and start the 2017 season off right.
Notre Dame beat the Temple Owls 49-16, and in doing so, the Irish got a little bit of the pressure from the 4-8 season of last year off of their backs... for now.
Notre Dame had some shaky moment throughout as Justin Yoon missed two field goals, and the Irish defense never really put it all together. The most obvious flaws are in the Notre Dame secondary, but to their credit, a lot of the missed tackles from a year ago seem to be gone.
All in all it was a pretty comfortable day and win for Notre Dame. There was plenty to hang their hat on and plenty to pick apart and work on next week. Just about what a program needs to start off a new season.
We will have plenty more on One Foot Down on this game as we recap it extensively, and look forward ro playing the Georgia Bulldogs next week.
