The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Boston College Eagles enter Saturday’s matchup with the same 1-1 record, but the oddsmakers are all-in on the visitors.
The Irish opened as a 11.5 point favorite over the Eagles, in a game to be played at 3:30 p.m. Saturday on ESPN. The line has since expanded to 13.5 points — or 14 points if you’ve betting at Bovada.Lv.
The game’s over/under is 48.5 points, down slightly from the opening line of 49.5 points. An Irish win of a 32-17 would cover the spread and pay any “over” bet.
The Irish sport the NCAA’s 56th best offense, which seems underwhelming until you consider Boston College is ranked 108th (out of 129 teams). The Eagles’ recent strength has been its defense. They are ranked 54th in total defense; the Irish are 48th.
Notre Dame holds the all-time series lead, 13-9, although Boston College has won 6 of the past 11 meetings dating back to 2001.
Let’s check in with the other side to see how Eagles fans are feeling about this point spread, courtesy of our colleagues at BC Interruption:
There you have it, readers. BC fans are urging us to bet the house — or whatever loan we can get against our 401(k) — on Notre Dame this weekend.
Here is the rest of Notre Dame opponents and the spreads in their games.
The Temple Owls, Georgia Bulldogs, Miami-Ohio RedHawks, USC Trojans, N.C. State Wolfpack and Wake Forest Demon Deacons are playing at home. The North Carolina Tarheels are on the road (and being broadcast on Twitter!). The Michigan State Spartans, Navy Midshipmen and Miami-Florida Hurricanes (because of Irma) are on bye this week.
