Welcome to another edition of Bagpipe Monday on One Foot Down! Friends, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are 1-1 (exactly what they were in 2016) and people are freaking out. Let's take a close look at the narrative following their 20-19 loss against the Georgia Bulldogs:
- Kelly 2.0 is a myth
- Kelly is a big jerk
- Brandon Wimbush sucks
- The offensive line sucks
- The defense still sucks - but not as bad
- Justin Yoon came back from Mars
- #RTDB
- Open up the offense
- Notre Dame fans suck for selling their tickets
- 1 point loss to a team like Georgia is okay
- 1 point loss is hell on Earth
- Fire Kelly
- Fire Swarbrick
- The media is out to get ND
Shit, I could go on and on and on with that list - and that's just this week.

The biggest problem we as fans have right now is that this is only week two. We still have very little to use in the ways of a comparison. If this was week 8 and an undefeated or one loss Notre Dame gets beat by an undefeated or one loss Georgia team, there would be much more to take away from Saturday Night (insert whatever scenario you like for week 8 and we would still know more than we do now).
As it is, Notre Dame is still very much in the same position as last year with a 1-1 record to start the season. No one saw what was to come next, but now that we did see it, it's really not that difficult to imagine it again.
That's why beating Georgia was so damn important. It would have allowed at least a general acknowledgement that everything IS different than last year, and we could move on to other things.
There is no escaping it now as Notre Dame heads into the next 5 weeks. They have 4 games and a bye week before they meet the USC Trojans. During this time, they may be able to shed some of the image that we all still have, but nothing will be absolute.
What's the deal with Notre Dame football? Well, we all have our theories, and I can't honestly say that one is more wrong or right than the other. The deal may be that we just haven't seen enough to form any solid opinion - even though we will all try.
