That’s a lot of leadership.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have announced that junior running back Josh Adams will be a captain in 2017. The ball carrier from Warrington, Pennsylvania becomes the seventh Irish captain for this season.

Back in December, Brian Kelly announced seven captains for the 2017 team. One of them was DeShone Kizer, who left early for the NFL Draft. The other six captains are:

  • LB Greer Martini (People’s Champ)
  • LT Mike McGlinchey
  • LB Nyles Morgan
  • LG Quenton Nelson
  • DB Drue Tranquill
  • Football player Austin Webster (walk-on with a scholarship now)

Brian Kelly’s best teams in South Bend have had tremendous leadership (which is more a universal thing than a Brian Kelly thing). I’m not sure if seven captains are actually needed, but it appears as if all seven are entirely worthy of the position.

Josh Adams definitely fits the mold for a captain, and Brian Kelly has praised his leadership since the spring. So, in effect, Adams adds to perhaps the deepest position on the team... captain.
