We are finally at the end (kind of) of the player profile series for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The last guy to be featured is junior defensive lineman Jerry Tillery. He is a 6’6.75 and 306 lbs. Tillery is a native of Shreveport, Louisiana where he attended Evangel Christian Academy.
Jerry Tillery has seen action in both of his freshman and sophomore seasons. In 2015, he played in all 12 regular season games while collecting 3 starts. He finished the season with 12 tackles and 1 sack. He started all 12 games this past season in 2016. He finished the season with 37 tackles and 3 tackles for loss. He will be looked at to lead an inexperienced defensive line unit in 2017.
Three Things To Know About Jerry Tillery:
- He has competed and finished in two triathlons before entering college.
- Tillery was recruited as an offensive lineman and did not play defense until arriving on Notre Dame’s campus
- He wants to pursue an NFL career along with eventually becoming a doctor.

Jerry “The Gentle Giant” Tillery
2017 Season Outlook:
With Daniel Cage recently being announced as out for the season, Jerry Tillery took on that much more responsibility. He will need to have a healthy and productive year for the Irish defense. He is the most experienced and most talented player along the defensive line. Tillery will need to have his most disruptive season yet. Over the last two seasons, Jerry Tillery has shown flashes of being a dominant force. He needs to put it all together this season and achieve a level of consistency. If I could pick one defensive player to be Notre Dame’s defensive MVP, I am picking Jerry Tillery. I think he is that important this year.
